Louis Vuitton – Paris Fall 2011 / Winter 2012 Louis Vuitton fall 2011 fashion show was based on fetish idea that came from a conversation with LVMH’s Bernard Arnault about women’s “inexplicable” obsession with bags, Jacobs explained. On the final day of Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton show opened with fetish-inspired collection as the models stepped out of three elevators onto the catwalk. Creative director Marc Jacobs send models including Freja, Shu Pei and Kinga strutting the stuff on runway donning handcuffs, pantless outfits, leather pieces, lace and lovely sheer and masks placed on chauffeur hats. It was a ‘Disciplined’ show that presented bell boys, elevators, french maids and supermodels on the runway. Making Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Show all the more extravagant were supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Carolyn Murphy who catwalked on runway and grabbed attention. It was a terrific show that saw a battalion of French maids wielding enormous feather dusters greeting the designer’s guests. Models stepped on runway donning Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 dresses cut from an incredible range of fabrics teamed with bags in variety of designs and material like gold, python, harlequin-cut shearling and embroidered monogram rubber. The reinterpreted 1958 top-handle Lockit bag cuffed to the models’ wrists with diamond handcuffs, was interesting. Looks like police-hatted, silk-stockinged, jodhpured style; menswear inspired tweed coats and jackets reshaped into hourglasses …

RAPAPORT… At the winter JA New York show, Atelier Minyon debuted their new goth bridal collection along with other unique pieces that feature angel, or fairy, wings and mermaids. The brand opened their SoHo boutique in 2008, but that store is really an expansion of six other locations — all named Jewel House of Minyon — based in Ankara, Turkey. The brand’s jewelry designs are dark and edgy, with hints of both Turkish and gothic influence. The collection includes pieces such as goth fairy wing necklaces and earrings, Ottoman coin pieces, Turkish evil eye jewelry and bangles and rings featuring skulls, snakes and spiders. Most pieces are made of 18-karat gold, silver and diamonds. Saundra Messinger, a former singer turned jewelry designer, has been increasing her use of big diamonds lately with her silver jewelry collection. Her designs focus on organic shapes, such as ovals and rectangles and also feature 14-karat white, yellow, green and rose gold along with a mix of other metals. Messinger also uses conflict-free, natural colored diamonds and gemstones and a percentage of the sterling silver used is recycled. Since the 1990s, jewelry brand Gurhan has been making unique jewelry pieces out of 24-karat gold and artifacts. The JA winter show as a good opportunity to show the latest collection of one-of-a-kind cameos that feature vintage style angel carvings. RAPAPORT… JA’s New York Winter Show 2010 reflected stronger buying activity than the past few shows, as well as showcasing new diamond jewelry designs. In this broadcast, Rapaport News speaks with JA New York Trade Show group director Drew Lawsky, Cindy Edelstein, the president of Jeweler’s Resource Bureau, and Mendel Rotenberg, the president of Sara Blaine Jewelry and Fusion Jewelry. The JA New York Winter Show 2010 ran from February 28 to March 2. Show attendance was up by approximately 15 to 20 percent and buying activity was up by about 10 percent, according to observations made by the Rapaport News team. Exhibitors, for the most part, were pleased with the show and surprised by the strong turnout. The first day of the show was busy and then Monday appeared to have lighter foot traffic; however, most of the exhibitors remained busy writing orders. Tuesday was also a strong sales day, as the show floor buzzed well into the afternoon hours, ahead of closing time. International participation was on par with the 2009 winter show, according to Lawsky. Here, Edelstein discusses both the new and emerging diamond jewelry trends that came courtesy of the JA NY Show’s Designer Lab during the winter show.
